11/1/2014 8:24:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Johnstown, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer team scored a season high eight goals in a shutout of Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon. In the 8-0 victory, goals were scored by Jaime Vazquez, Jordan Brubaker, Jonathan Dadeboe, Anthony Fratini, Jesse Zimmerman, and Ben Johnston who added a pair of goals.
Millersville's (6-11-1, 5-6-0) eight goals marked the first time since 1999 that its offense scored at least eight tallies. The Marauders attempted a season high 31 shots with 17 of them on the goal frame. Offensively, the Black & Gold had a very successful afternoon on set pieces as they attempted 13 corner kicks resulting in three goals.
The Marauders scored the opening tally at the 8:59 mark when Jaime Vazquez converted on a beautiful combination play between himself and midfielder Ben Johnston. Vazquez finished the afternoon with four points and he ended the season with 17 points good for ninth in the conference.
Millersville added two more goals in the 22nd and 37th minutes building a 3-0 halftime advantage. Jesse Zimmerman swung a corner kick inside the box that connected with the head of Jordan Brubaker who finished it past keeper Tim Ofman. At the 37:36 mark, Devin Rediker blasted a shot off of Ofman that was rebounded by forward Jonathan Dadeboe who fired it into the empty net.
Not even a minute into the second period the Marauders were on the board again. This time it was Anthony Fratini who headed the ball past the Mountain Cat keeper. The goal marked the first of the season for the 6-1 senior defender.
An own goal by Pitt-Johnstown made the score 5-0 at the 47:29 mark. Ben Johnston added the first of his two goals in the 58th minute when he finished a Jaime Vazquez cross from just outside the box.
In the 80th minute the Marauders added their seventh and eighth goals of the match. The first was a very powerful strike from Jesse Zimmerman off a corner kick attempt. The second goal came courtesy of Ben Johnston who was assisted by Jordan Brubaker.
The Marauders were officially eliminated from postseason play with California's win, and it marked the first time under Coach Steve Widdowson that the team won't be participating in the PSAC Tournament.
