Mansfield, Pa. - Millersville women's basketball cruised past Mansfield 84-61 thanks to a 21-point halftime lead and a season-best 53.3 percent (32-of-60) shooting performance Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.
The Marauders (8-6, 3-1 PSAC East) improved to 60-3 all-time against the Mountaineers (0-15, 0-5 PSAC East) and have taken the last 14 against Mansfield. The Mountaineers managed to shoot just 24.5 percent (13-of-53) from the field--the lowest for a Millersville opponent this season.
Celeste Robinson continued to shine bright for the Marauders as she earned her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds to go with three steals, a career-best three blocks and two assists. The sophomore guard was a brilliant 8-of-10 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Shelby Reimer scored 10 points, all of which came in the first half, as the final Marauder in double-figures. All 12 players who saw action for Millersville found the scoring column.
The Marauders opened the game on a 13-2 run fueled by all of Carly Gallagher's season-low five points. Gallagher played just 15 minutes due to foul trouble. Mansfield battled and cut the margin to six twice but that is the closest the Mountaineers would get. Millersville led by as many as 21 in the first half and did so heading into the intermission.
Millersville outscored Mansfield just 37-35 in the second half. The Marauders were able to unload their bench and hold on for the win. Millersville controlled the rebound department 50-27 including 34-19 on the defensive glass. The Marauders tied a season-high in blocks with seven to just one for Mansfield. Millersville also dominated in bench scoring (41-14), points in the paint (50-18) and fast break points (22-8).
