Marauders Rout Cal; Will Host PSAC Championship Game

Millersville, Pa. – The Marauders cruised past No. 8 California (Pa.) on Wednesday evening in the semifinals by scoring two goals in each half for a 4-0 victory. Millersville will host fourth-seeded Bloomsburg on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at Chyrst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium for the PSAC Championship.

Millersville (11-6-1) dominated the match from the get-go. Senior forward Aaron Roland opened up the scoring in the 17th minute. Sophomore Colby Zeger sent in a cross from 25 yards out that found Roland far side. Roland knocked the ball down and stretched out to knock the ball past the Vulcans' keeper to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead.

The Marauders found another goal late in the first half to extend their lead to two. Freshman Colby Klumpp dribbled the ball down the middle of the field then sent a through-pass that found Sophomore Andrew Dukes all alone. Dukes eluded the Cal keeper for an easy goal and his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Cal (11-3-4) was unable to get any scoring chances going in the first half with Millersville ending the side with a 12-6 shot advantage.

The Vulcans' Nemanja Visekruna receieved a red card five minutes into the second half to give Millerville a man advantage for the final 40 minutes of play.

The Marauders continued to pressure the offensive zone. Millersville earned a free kick in the 54th minute that paid. Senior Eric Pepper delivered the kick from 20 yards out to find a group of players to the left of the goal. Roland headed the ball to Junior Matt Kadoch, who then centered it to Sophomore Ryan Rohrer to find the back of the net for Millersville's third goal of the evening.

Millersville wasn't finished. Fourteen minutes later freshman Christopher Davidson sent a through-pass to Kadoch who ran past the Vulcans' defense. Kadoch dribbled all alone with only the Cal keeper left to beat. Kadoch sent the ball right to roll slowly into the empty net to give the Marauders a 4-0 lead.

Redshirt freshman Brad Benzing showed no jitters in his first post-season appearance. The Millersville goalkeeper made three saves, including a diving stop in the first half to keep the game a 1-0. Benzing recorded his seventh shutout of the season in the win to advance the Marauders to their third PSAC Championship game in four years.

The Marauders will host fourth-seeded Bloomsburg on Saturday at 6 p.m. The last time Millersville hosted the conference title game was in 2008. The Huskies outlasted top-seeded Lock Haven in penalty kicks to advance to the championship game. Millersville won the only meeting between the teams this year by a 2-0 score on Sept. 14.
