Women's Tennis Pushes Record to 4-0 with Win Over Georgian Court

Millersville, Pa. – For the second time in as many days, the Millersville women's tennis team notched a home victory to extend its perfect season. On Sunday at the McComsey Tennis Courts, the Marauders dispatched Georgian Court 6-3 to improve to 4-0.
With its fourth win, the Marauders topped the entire win total from the 2007-08 campaign. Last season, the team went 3-9 overall.
The Marauders continued its impressive play in doubles, taking two of the three matches to improve to 10-2 on the year in doubles matches. Georgian Court knocked off Millersville's top team of Andrea Konas and Jenny Habecker, but the Marauders responded with Lindsay Knappenberger and Michelle DeStefano winning 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. The freshman pair of Shauna Powers and Samantha Souders improved to 4-0 as a team by taking an 8-1 win in the No. 3 slot.
Knappenberger boosted her record to 4-0 on the season with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Caitlyn Lawrence at No. 2 singles. Habecker downed Katrina Dockum 6-4, 6-1. Souders, making her first appearance at No. 4 singles, rolled 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 4-0 on the year. DeStefano needed a tiebreaker to win the first set at No. 5, but rolled in the second set to a 6-1 win. Powers also improved to a perfect 4-0 in her Millersville career by topping Daisy Prendergast, 6-0, 6-2.
Millersville looks to keep its record spotless Wednesday when it hosts Philadelphia. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
