'Ville women's tennis starts 2-0 for the first time since 2019

CALIFORNIA, Pa. — The Millersville University women's tennis team celebrated a triumphant 6-1 victory over California (Pa.) on Sunday. The Marauders swept all three doubles matches and secured wins on five of six singles courts, earning points at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6.
The Marauders clinched the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Jade Miller and Duda Coutinho Barreto commenced the sweep with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles, while Lauren Hayes and Mia Gassert sealed the point with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Haley Miller and Annika Rojas completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
'Ville carried that momentum into singles play, moving to 3-0 in the dual behind Jade Miller's dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and Luci Consigliere's 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles. Gassert then clinched the dual at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Following the clinch, Hayes added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles, and Haley Miller won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Rojas experienced a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at No. 4 singles as the Marauders wrapped up a 6-1 dual victory.
"Our doubles really set the tone today," said Millersville head coach Eric Burns. "We really did a nice job carrying that momentum over to singles."
MATCH NOTES
- The Marauders improved their record to 2-4 all-time against California with wins in each of the last two seasons.
- The Marauders have started 2-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
