BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - After taking Saturday's opener 6-2, Bloomsburg scored seven runs in the final two innings, rallying from a two-run deficit in the seventh and walked-off with a 10-9 win to split the weekend series with Millersville.
The mistake-filled final inning-and-a-half featured wild swings of momentum for both teams. Millersville led 5-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, but Bloomsburg scored four runs on just one hit as three Marauder pitchers combined to walk two, hit a batter and commit an error. But Millersville flipped the lead back in its favor in the top of the seventh.
After back-to-back free passes, Christo Hunsicker put down a sacrifice bunt. The throw to first base sailed into right field. Both runners scored to tie the game, and Hunsicker raced all the way around the bases as well. Jimmy Kirk added an RBI ground out, but the two run lead would not be enough.
Bloomsburg started the bottom of the seventh with three consecutive singles. A four-pitch walk cut Millersville's lead to one. Ryan Fox entered out of the bullpen, struck out the first hitter, and after skipping a pitch to the backstop, he caught Joe Levis in a run down between home and third. But Fox could not escape unscathed. He hit Greg Russo to load the bases, hit Matt Freda to tie the game, and on an 0-2 pitch, Dylan Hirsch hit what looked to be an inning-ending ground ball, but the charging Brady Ebbert could field the chopper, and Jeremy Stine scored the game-winning run.
In the final two innings, Millersville committed two errors, hit three batters and walked three. Combining walks, hit batters and errors, Millersville issued 13 free passes.
Millersville held an early lead in the opener as well, taking a 2-1 advantage into the bottom of the fourth. Free passes plagued Millersville's pitchers again as they walked two of the first three batters of the inning and hit two batters with two outs. Bloomsburg scored four runs on two hits in the inning, and the 6-2 lead held up the rest of the way.
Sammy Laux went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in game one. Jimmy Kirk went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in game two.
The losses evened Millersville and Bloomsburg in the PSAC East standings, both at 8-8. The Marauders next two series are against the seventh and eighth-place teams in the division--Mansfield and Kutztown. Millersville's series with Mansfield starts on the road on April 17.
