Marauders' bats break out in opener but go quiet in game two

Millersville entered the weekend having scored double-digit runs just twice in the first 18 PSAC East games and hadn't totaled 10 hits 11 consecutive games. The 16 runs in the opener were the most by the Marauders since March 7. That game, however, was immediately followed by the Marauders matching their fewest runs scored since March 21. Mansfield had lost 16 of its previous 17 and 10 in a row before its game two win.
Millersville started game one with four runs in the first inning, and it scored at least one run in all seven frames. Seven Marauders produced two or more hits. Christo Hunsicker recorded two doubles, a single and three RBIs. Brady Ebbert went 3 for 4 with two runs. Jimmy Kirk hit a second-inning home run, totaled two hits and two walks. Matthew Williams hit a solo home run in the fifth.
Eli Simonton (4-1) pitched six solid innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four.
Millersville out-hit Mansfield 8-7 in the nightcap but could not capitalize, going 0 for 5 with four strikeouts with runners in scoring position in the first six innings. Sammy Laux finally delivered with Millersville trailed 4-1 in the top of the seventh, driving in Donis Rodriguez with an infield single. But with the tying run on first and one out, Mansfield's Matt Rader got back-to-back fly outs to earn a three-inning save.
Mansfield starter Ryan Sink entered the start with a 5.90 ERA and four strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings of work against PSAC East opponents, but he fanned five Marauders in four innings and limited them to one run--scored in the third inning on Laux's single.

Millersville and Mansfield complete the four-game series with a doubleheader at Cooper Park Saturday at 1 p.m.
