EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Millersville University's All-America relief pitcher Joe Morrissey is now a professional baseball player. Morrissey recently signed a contract with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League, joining fellow Marauder Amani Jones.
Morrissey turned in one of the most dominant seasons by a reliever in Millersville history in 2026, going 5-1 with six saves and a 1.04 ERA over 52 innings. Morrissey struck out 63 while walking 17, and team's hit just .182 against him. His performance caught the attention of the Otters who are currently in second place in the Frontier League's Midwest Central Division.
Morrissey debuted on June 3 and has since made four appearances, totaling five innings with a pair of strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
With Morrissey and Jones, Millersville alumni are making a significant impact on the Otters' winning ways. Jones, who coached first base for the Marauders for the majority of the 2026 season, opened the Frontier League season with the Otters and now leads the team in plate appearances and his hitting .310 with a .400 on-base percentage while playing shortstop.
Morrissey is the 21st Marauder coached by Jon Shehan to sign a professional contract. Tim Mayza and Chas McCormick are also Marauder alums active in professional baseball. After eight years in the Houston Astros organization, McCormick signed with the Chicago Cubs in the offseason. While slowed by injuries in 2026, McCormick has played in 42 games with Triple-A Iowa, hitting .250. Mayza, playing his ninth season in Major League Baseball, has been outstanding for the Philadelphia Phillies, logging a 2.97 ERA in 29 games.
