MILLERSVILLE, Pa. --- Despite a late surge in goal scoring, the Marauders fell to a strong PSAC East opponent in West Chester at Biemsderfer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. After a deadlocked even first quarter, a dominant second quarter from the Golden Rams proved critical at the end of the day.
KC O'Neill held it down for the Marauders in the first quarter, making five saves, which contributed to just two West Chester goals.
The second quarter was the one that swung the game in favor of the Golden Rams, outscoring the Marauders 5-1 and taking a 7-3 lead going into the half. The story of the second was sound execution on the side of the Golden Rams, with five of their seven shots finding the net. The Golden Rams were generating quality looks all night, looking to use their speed to generate open looks and force free-position opportunities. We're going to focus on our contact being outside the 8 m so we're not risking fouls ending in shooting opportunities, Coach Hinkle said post-game.
Eyeing a comeback, Millersville made halftime adjustments that led them back to the same success they had in past games. Speed and quickness. Kayleigh Dunn had two goals in the second half to finish off a hat-trick in the contest, whereas Jodylynn Cadden also played a pivotal role in the second-half push for the marauders with two goals within a minute of each other late in the fourth quarter.
The late push proved not enough, though, as West Chester capitalized on free position opportunities and relied on some late scoring to get the deal done.
