MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Marauders outscored Shepherd 8-2 en route to a massive 17-8 victory with seven different goal scorers. Brianna Gora, Addison Geary, Shannon Meder, and Kayleigh Dunn all ended the contest with at least a hat-trick, with Gora leading the way with four goals in the contest.
Despite the final score, the first half was very back-and-forth, with Mary Moraca opening the scoring for the Marauders. Shepherd answered just minutes later and eventually pushed themselves to a 3-2 lead before the end of the first quarter. Right before the buzzer sounded, Avery Weaber netted her first and only goal of the game.
The Marauders quickly capitalized on the momentum of the buzzer-beater goal, as they scored three unanswered goals to quickly take a 6-3 lead. It took the Rams almost 6 minutes to respond, and both teams continued trading blows. The three-goal barrage at the beginning of the quarter proved the difference for the Marauders, who ended the half leading 9-6.
Millersville had no trouble finding the back of the net today, and their first-half success continued into the second. Coach Hinkle said, Our main focus today was ball movement and creating the right opportunities. That opened up our attack, allowing multiple goal scorers. With seven different goal scorers, the Marauders executed on their main focus.
Just as impressive as the offensive day for the Maruaders, the defense held the Rams to just two second-half goals, one of their more dominant performances of the early season. When describing the defensive success of the team, Coach Hinkle commented, Defensively, we focused on stepping up, switching on picks, and using our aggressiveness outside the 8m. We had each other's backs and were confident in our adjusted slides.
It was all Marauders in the second half as they ended with a 17-8 victory to get their first conference win of the year.
