Box Score LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Millersville University women's tennis team opened their fall season at the Bucknell Invitational. Annika Rojas defeated two D1 competitors from Lafayette College in singles matches for a 3-0 tournament record. 

Millersville joined Indiana University (Pa.), Slippery Rock University, Lafayette College, Saint Francis University, and host Bucknell at the two-day event. The invitational was split into several brackets with singles matches including orange, maroon, green, and gold while the doubles matches were Bison, Hawks, Rocky, and Flash. 

Annika Rojas led the way in singles with a perfect 3–0 record, while Duda Coutinho Barreto and Sophie Lanius each added a singles win. In doubles, Callie Culbertson and Hailey Guerrero were the lone Marauder pair to notch a victory. Full results are listed below. 

"What a great weekend for MU women's tennis," said head coach Matt Helsel. "All of our players, especially the new ones will benefit immensely from this experience. They not only got to play a lot, they got to play against a very high caliber of competition. It was a great opportunity for us to set a baseline as we begin our journey. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend." 

When asked about what players showed leadership on the court, Helsel responded, "We start this year with no captains and a lot of new faces. I was curious to see how the team would respond to this situation. As I hoped, leaders stepped up, both on and off the court. We're blessed this season to hae some great emerging leaders. Sophie Lanius, Lauren Hayes, and Annika Rojas really proved great leadership on and off the court all weekend. Even Luci Consigliere showed tremendous commitment to her teammates with her support while being unable to play due to injury." 

The Marauders' next match is Thursday, Oct. 2 when they travel to Bloomsburg, Pa. for the ITA Regional.
