BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Millersville University's Julie Wallace and Noelle Htwar's run in the PSAC Doubles Championships came to an end in the tournament's semifinals Sunday.
Wallace and Htwar won their first two matches earlier in the weekend, both by 8-4 scores. The semifinal draw was a stiff challenge as they drew IUP's Natasha Munday and Joanna Stralka, who had finished as the ITA Atlantic Regional doubles runners-up just days earlier on Millersville's campus.
The IUP pairing jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Wallace and Htwar rallied back by winning four of the next six games. Munday and Stralka, however, had enough to hold off the charging Marauders for an 8-4 win. Monday's finals will feature two teams from IUP in a rematch of the ITA regional.
REACTION FROM COACH HELSEL
• "We played probably the second best doubles team in the whole region and spotted them a 5-0 start. We won four of six games and even had a couple more chances to make it even closer. They work so well together and never quit on any ball."
UP NEXT
• Millersville gets back to dual matches this week and travels to western Pennsylvania for back-to-back matches against Mercyhurst (Oct. 8) and Slippery Rock (Oct. 9).
