Marauders well-represented at Lancaster Sports Hall of Fame Banquet

Lancaster, Pa. - Millersville University women's basketball coach Mary Fleig as well as hall of fame members Marge Trout, Scott Martin '02 and Sam Bigler '73/'76M will be recognized by the Lancaster Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Eden Resort and Suites. 

Fleig, who is entering her 29th season as Millersville's head coach, is one of four J. Freeland Chryst Sports Achievement Award recipients and Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Three of this year's inductees are linked to Millersville University. In addition to Fleig, Martin and Bigler, both Millersville alums. Former women's director of athletics Marge Trout will receive the organization's top honor--the George W. Kirchner Memorial Award--which has been presented for more than 60 years. 

Trout served Millersville University for 37 years and was inducted into the athletics hall of fame in 2006. A true leader in women's athletics, Trout coached women's basketball and women's lacrosse and led the department, providing more opportunities for women to play sports, increasing the offerings from four sports to 12. 

Fleig has won 625 games in her career, which includes seven seasons at nearby Franklin & Marshall. As Millersville's coach, Fleig owns 503 wins, a .640 winning percentage, nine NCAA Tournament berths and six PSAC East Coach of the Year awards. 

Martin was inducted into Millersville's hall of fame in 2007 after ann outstanding football career that spanned from 1990-93. He was named All-PSAC East three times and All-America two times. 

Bigler was inducted as part of Millersville's first hall of fame class in 1995. He was a four-time NCAA weightlifting champion at Millersville and became the first Marauder student-athlete to qualify and participate in the Olympics. At the Montreal Summer Games in 1976, Bigler tied for 10th in the 182-pound snatch, clean and jerk. He also won a gold medal at the 1973 Pan American games in Braziil.
