2/27/2017 8:46:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Kutztown, Pennsylvania - Alayah Hall tied her career high with 29 points as the Millersville women's basketball team went on the road to defeat Kutztown 69-65 in the first round of the PSAC Tournament Monday. Millersville did just enough to get into the playoffs by earning the sixth seed but snapped a six-game losing streak with the victory. Kendra Bamberger continued her strong play, registering her first double-double of her career with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Millersville trailed for the majority of the game, but a 25-15 fourth-quarter lifted the Marauders to the road win. Courtney Hinnant scored 16 points while grabbing six rebounds as the Marauders shot nearly 42 percent from the floor, edging out the Golden Bears with 32 points in the paint. Fouls were an issue for Kutztown, committing 10 more than the Marauders (24-10) and Millersville capitalized with 19 points from the free throw line.
Kutztown entered the fourth quarter up six and Kara Funk hit a jumper to make the score 52-44. Millersville would go on an 10-2 run an tie the score at 54. After a Jordyn Kloster free throw, Courtney Hinnant scored back-to-back buckets and the Marauders took a five-point advantage with under four minutes to play.
Alex Heck and Sierra Taylor would respond for the Golden Bears and cut the deficit to one point. After Millersville missed a shot, Kutztown had a chance to take the lead but missed consecutive 3-pointers and Alayah Hall converted a jumper on the other end. Millersville sealed the game from the free-throw line, going 8-for-8 and clinching the postseason victory.
With the win, Millersville advances to the PSAC Quarterfinals. The Marauders will matchup up with the second-seeded East Stroudsburg Warriors Wednesday.
