No. 2 ESU knocks out No. 4 Millersville in PSAC Semifinal
11/3/2017 5:30:00 PM | Field Hockey
Shippensburg, Pa. – No. 2 East Stroudsburg defeated No. 4 Millersville 3-1 on Friday in the semifinal round of the PSAC tournament.
The Warriors put up 13 shots and seven shots on goal, compared to the seven shots (three on goal) for Millersville. ESU's Bailey Quinn scored the first and third goal in the game, helping to catapult ESU into the PSAC Championship where they will take on West Chester.
Aliza Mizak provided a bright spot for Millersville scoring the lone goal of the day for the Marauders. Kathleen Bishop assisted Mizak for the goal, which tied the game at one 17 minutes into the first half.
It was the eighth goal of the season for Mizak.
However, it was not enough. ESU scored 14 minutes into the game on a goal by Quinn; it was assisted by Melanie Shambaugh.
It was just the beginning of what was to come.
Five minutes later, Makenna Marhefka scored to put East Stroudsburg up 2-1. The Warrior would not look back, and they continued to hound Millerville goalie Kylee Bair.
Bair made four saves in the game, but she also surrendered the most goals since a loss against Shippensburg on Sept. 12 of this year.
The third and final goal for ESU came on a penalty stroke. Again it was Quinn that scored, giving ESU some insurance.
The loss drops Millersville to 14-5 on the year. They now await the decision of whether they will be in the NCAA Tournament or not. The most recent rankings had the Marauders No. 3 in the region. The selection show is Monday at 3 p.m.
