MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Millersville University field hockey team (4-12, 1-7) defeated Bloomsburg (12-4, 5-3) 2-1 Saturday on senior day. The Marauders put four of their six shots on goal and held Bloomsburg to two shots on goal in the win.

The Marauders recognized Megan Alvarez, Alaina Culbert, Liv Roscoe, Faith Bollinger, Madi Gaul, Lauren Kampi, and Erin Esterhuizen for senior day.

Bloomsburg finished with a 7-6 edge in total shots, while the Marauders put four attempts on goal compared with two for the visitors. Bollinger was credited with the game-winning goal, and the Marauders' defense limited Bloomsburg to one save required over 60 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Marauders produced the only recorded shots of the first quarter, with Culbert forcing a save at 2:42 and Kampi sending an attempt wide less than two minutes later. The quarter ended scoreless at 0-0.

'Ville broke through in the second quarter when Lexi Boyle scored at 23:55, giving the Marauders a 1-0 lead. The goal came one second after Boyle had a shot saved, and the Marauders took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Bloomsburg pulled even with the Marauders in the third quarter when Alyxandra Flick scored off Raegan Iasiello's assist at 34:30 to make it 1-1. Grace Williams made a save during a later Bloomsburg penalty corner sequence, and Zoe Angelinas had the Marauders' late shot blocked before the quarter ended tied 1-1.

Bollinger scored off Esterhuizen's assist at 49:09 to give 'Ville a 2-1 lead in the fourth quarter. The Marauders then handled three Bloomsburg penalty corners in the final six minutes, with two resulting shots blocked. The score held through the end of the quarter as the Marauders finished a 2-1 win.

Bollinger scored the game-winning goal on her lone shot. Boyle added the Marauders' first goal, finishing with two shots on goal. Esterhuizen recorded an assist. Williams played all 60 minutes in goal, making one save and allowing one goal to earn the win.

"Defense was huge today." said head coach Shelly Behrens. "Defense starts with our forewords and our midfield defense, Esterhuizen in particular, was just everywhere in the first half. They picked up a lot of 50/50 balls, junk balls, stuff like that, so credit to them. Penalty corner defense, we made one or two switches but they were lights out and Williams did a great job in goal... We saw excitement on the field today because it was senior day. All the seniors they just played their butts off today against a very good Bloomsburg team..."
