Millersville struggles under pressure against No. 1 Kutztown
10/7/2026 10:00:00 PM | Field Hockey
Kutztown finished with 25 shots, including 14 on goal, while Millersville recorded one shot, an on-goal attempt from Aftyn Robbins. Katherine Hanlon played all 60 minutes in cage and made eight saves.
"We have to put a whole game together," said head coach Shelly Behrens. "We are getting some people back from [injury]. So a lot to learn and play for yet [this] season."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The biggest factor was Kutztown's scoring, as it converted six times to create the final margin. Kutztown took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on a penalty stroke in the second minute and a Rachel Galasso goal off Taylor Vaccaro's assist in the ninth minute. After a scoreless second quarter, Julia Traynor scored in the 37th minute and Jessica Traynor followed in the 39th minute to make it 4-0, and Kutztown added goals in the 53rd and 58th minutes to finish the 6-0 result.
Kutztown's pressure also shaped the game, with the home side producing 25 shots, 14 on goal, three penalty corners in the second quarter and six more in the fourth. Hanlon kept the Marauders in stretches of the game, making three saves in the second quarter, another late in the third and three more in the fourth.
Millersville's attacking chances were limited but included Robbins' on-goal shot in the 15th minute, which forced a save from Lorelai Lehenky. The Marauders also generated a penalty corner from Lauren Kampi in the 19th minute and two penalty corners through Faith Bollinger in the 41st and 42nd minutes, but did not record a shot in the third quarter and finished with one shot overall.
Hanlon recorded eight saves over 60 minutes in goal. Robbins put her shot attempt on goal.
"There is a reason the PSAC is the best, and it makes you better," said Behrens. "I know we will learn from tonight and get better moving forward."

Up next, the Marauders travel to Indiana, Pa., to face Indiana (PA) on Sunday, Oct. 11, at noon.
