GAME OVERVIEW
- The Marauders' next contest comes Wednesday when they take on PSAC opponent Slippery Rock. Millersville opened up PSAC play last Saturday against IUP, winning its fifth game in a row and improving to 6-1 on the year. The lone goal for IUP was only the fourth goal scored on goalkeeper Sam Rumler all year. Rumler has also held opponents to merely two goals in the five home games the Marauders have played in 2016.
- Rumler has been phenomenal, both this year and last. She was just named to the U.S. Women's National Field Hockey team, becoming the only Division II player on the exclusive squad. She is currently in fourth in the country in GAA, after leading the NCAA in 2015. The goalkeeper made eight saves, allowing only one goal, in the victory over No. 10 West Chester. In the next game, Millersville allowed only two shots on goal in the win over IUP. It is rare that both the Millersville defense and Rumler struggle, each pick each other up, whether it's Rumler making eight saves or the defense limiting their opponents' shots to two on goal. In fact, the Marauders have not let up three goals in a game since their 3-0 loss to West Chester in the PSAC tournament in 2014. To put that stat in perspective, Millersville has allowed opponents to score three goals in a game only one time since the 2014 season, and in that same time span, the Marauders have scored three or more goals 23 times.
- Aliza Mizak was one of three Marauders to score in the victory over IUP (Courtney Weaver and Maci Langone also scored). Mizak, along with Kathleen Bishop, ranks in the top 20 in goals in the country. Mizak has already placed 15 shots on goal, scored four times, and added an assist for Millersville. Mizak, Bishop, and Margaret Thorwart have combined for 10 goals in merely seven games for Millersville.
- The Marauders have dominated Slippery Rock not only in recent years, but for many years. Millersville has defeated The Rock 10 times in a row and boast a 32-9-2 record against them all-time. In the 10-game winning streak, Millersville has shut out Slippery Rock nine times, including a 3-0 win earlier this year on the road.
- The Sept. 14 meeting was an evenly matched game, played mostly in the middle of the field. It was the lowest combined shots in a game that Millersville has played in thus far, only taking 10 and The Rock totaling two. It took nearly 50 minutes for someone to score as Robyn Spatichia sent in the first of three goals in a Millersville victory. Margaret Thorwart and Kathleen Bishop also scored in the win.
