Marauders Too Much for Wolves in 72-53 Win

Millersville, Pa. - Alayah Hall and Kendra Bamberger scored season highs to help the Millersville women's basketball team to a 72-53 win over PSAC East rival Cheyney Wednesday evening Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 13-7 overall and 9-7 in the PSAC East.
Millersville outscored Cheyney in all four quarters and scored 20 in three of them. Hall totaled 13 points by knocking down 4-of-5 shots and 4-of-4 free throws. Bamberger scored 12 after hitting all six of her shots from the field. The duo helped Millersville's bench outscored Cheyney's 34-0. The Marauders also controlled the glass by a 45-32 edge, marking the 13th time they have won the rebounding battle this season.
Millersville trailed for only 39 seconds in the game. After regaining the lead at 11-9 with 4:05 left in the first quarter, it never trailed again. The Marauders began to pull away in the second quarter when Bamberger scored to start an 10-3 run that included threes frrom Celeste Robinson and Shelby Reimer. Millersville extended its lead to 13 at the half following a bucket from Hall.
The Marauders opened the advantage to 19 on two occasions in the third quarter. White scored six of the team's 12 points in the quarter. Cheyney cut the Marauder lead to 10 with 8:04 left in the game but Millersville quickly pushed it up to 22 in under three minutes. The 13-1 run included five points from Hall. The Marauder defense held Cheyney to 0-of-6 shooting in the stretch.
Cheyney shot just 33.9 percent from the field and went 0-for-10 from three. It was the first time since Feb. 22, 2014 that Millersville held an opponent without a three. Robinson chipped in 11 points and six assists.
Millersville hosts Lock Haven Saturday in its annual "Hooping for a Cure" game. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
