Hilton Head, S.C. - The Millersville men's tennis team ended a three-match skid and scored its first win since September by blanking St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Wednesday.
While taking all nine matches, Millersville (2-3) received three marathon victories in singles from Kevin Tran, Dylan Ryan and Niko Mucci. All three Marauders rallied from losing their first sets and won in the third set tiebreaker.
Jody Sambrick had a much easier time at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Alex Kline. He and Tucker Mertz combined for an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles slot. Mertz also won his singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Ryan and Tran teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, and Mucci and Christian Boyer teamed for a win at No. 3 singles by the same score.
The wins of Tran, Ryan and Mucci in singles were pivotal. Against Michael Kim, Tran dropped the first set by a 6-4 count. He bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second and rolled to a 10-3 win in the third. Ryan's win over Brad Rumancik could not have been contested any closer. Rumancik took the first set, 7-6, and Ryan won by the same score in the second. The tiebreaker was decided by a 10-8 score. Mucci and Justin Weigal entered the third set after splitting the first two, 5-7, 6-3. The third lasted until Mucci finally notched a 15-13 set win.
Anthony Jadus earned Millersville's sixth singles win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
The Marauders continued their Hilton Head trip with a match against Wisconsin Eau-Claire on Wednesday.
