MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville University men's tennis team fell to the Golden Rams of West Chester, 5–2, marking their sixth consecutive loss. The match featured several tightly contested third-set battles. In doubles play, Sandor Wulf and Axel Duclos secured the team's lone win, while Duclos and Daniel Ducheyne each earned victories in singles competition.
Sandor Wulf and Axel Duclos earned a dominant 6–1 victory in doubles play, while the teams of Paul Bagnouls and Adrian Weisser, and Daniel Ducheyne and Arrav Bharti each fell by identical 6–3 scores. Sandor and Axel played outstanding doubles and then carried that into singles play as well. That's a great example for everyone at the top of the lineup, said head coach Matt Helsel. Daniel continues to play well also.
In singles play, Wulf narrowly missed pushing his match to a third set, falling in a tight second-set tiebreak, 7–6(1). Duclos opened strong with a 7–6(0) first-set win, but his opponent answered with a 7–6(6) second-set victory to force a deciding third. Duclos ultimately secured the win in the final set with a 1(7)-0. Weisser battled in a closely contested first set, dropping it 7–6(5), before falling 6–4 in the second. Milan Urbanek and Bagnouls stayed competitive in their opening sets but struggled to maintain momentum in the second. Ducheyne earned the Marauders' final point of the match with a 6–3, 7–6(2) victory.
Congrats to Coach Tharp, said Helsel. She always has her teams ready to play hard. It was a tough match and both teams [men's and women's] played well in difficult conditions.
The Marauders are back in action March 28-29 as they travel with the women's team to face the Fighting Scots from Edinboro University (Saturday) and the Wildcats from Daemen University (Sunday).
