MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - After being swept by the Golden Bears of Kutztown University in doubles play, the Millersville University men's tennis team responded with a strong singles performance to steal a 4-3 comeback victory—marking Millersville's first conference win of the season. Axel Duclos, Adrian Weisser, Paul Bagnouls, and Daniel Ducheyne each earned key singles wins to clinch the match.
In doubles action, Daniel Ducheyne and Arrav Bharti were the first to fall, dropping a quick 6-0 decision. Paul Bagnouls and Adrian Weisser followed with a 6-3 loss, while Sandor Wulf and Axel Duclos put up a strong fight but came up just short in a 7(9)-6 defeat.
Wulf and Milan Urbanek narrowly missed out on first-set victories in their singles matches, each dropping a 7-5 decision before losing momentum in the second set. Bagnouls and Ducheyne responded with strong performances, each taking their opening sets 6-1 before grinding out 6-4 wins in the second. Weisser added a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Duclos helped secure the match with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win.
"I'm truly proud of our guys today," said head coach Matt Helsel. "Kutztown came out very strong in doubles, but we didn't let that get us down. We played with a lot of poise in singles and really kept the pressure on them. I'm very happy for Axel, Adrian, and Paul. Daniel has been having a good season, but those others have been struggling and for them to get wins today was great. It's easy to work hard when you're winning and things are going your way. It's not so easy when things aren't going your way. But we keep working and striving for better results and that speaks very highly of our players as people. That's a trait that will serve them very well in life."
The Marauders are back on the court April 8 when they travel to Chestnut Hill.
