Box Score 2 East Stroudsburg, Pa. – A doubleheader with East Stroudsburg Sunday afternoon presented the Millersville softball team with an opportunity to improve its spot in the PSAC East standings, coming in just a game behind the Warriors at 3-5 in divisional play. The Marauders couldn't capitalize on the opportunity, dropping both of the day's games by scores of 7-6 and 12-4, respectively.

With
Sarah Bertoni in the circle and a 6-5 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh in game one, Millersville had to like its chances to pull into a tie with ESU. But Bertoni, who has been spectacular all season long, couldn't make the lead stand up, as the Warriors tied the game with an RBI single to right on the fifth at-bat of the inning before winning the game on a fielder's choice groundout a batter later.

Game one was on the see-saw for its entirety, as the Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the first, and increased their edge to 3-0 on a run-scoring single in the second. The Marauders answered with two runs in the top of the third, scoring the team's first run when
Jamie Motsko slapped a single to left to bring home
Stephanie Kulp.
Cara Nance, the next batter to the plate, brought home Millersville's second run of the game when she punched a single to the third base side, scoring
Ginely Ortiz-Marrero.

Millersville took the lead in the top of the fourth when Bertoni and Kulp smashed back-to-back homers, giving the team a 4-3 advantage. Five batters later, Motsko singled through the right side, increasing the team's lead to three runs on a two-run single. But East Stroudsburg got two runs back in its half of the fourth, scoring on consecutive base hits, setting the stage for the Warrior comeback in the seventh. After three more scoreless innings between the teams, ESU scored its game-tying and game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.

In the second game, the Warriors got off to a big start off Marauder starter
Brianna Andraos, tagging the freshman pitcher for nine runs and chasing her after just one out. East Stroudsburg took a 9-0 lead after just the first inning, and the Marauders could never recover. Millersville did score four runs in the fourth inning, plating two runs on an
Ashley Cantiello two-run single.

Three batters later, Ortiz-Marrero singled home a run and
Jordan Sheffield walked on the next at-bat to bring home the team's fourth and final run. The Warriors scored three more runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings, scoring two runs on a Millersville miscue in the fifth and another run in the sixth to end the game with a run-scoring single.

Motsko led the team in hitting for the first game, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Cantiello went 3-for-3 in game two, knocking home two runs and scoring one of her own. The loss for Bertoni drops her record to 12-7, and Andraos' loss brings her record to 8-4. The pair of defeats for the Marauders drop the team's record to 23-15 overall, 3-7 in the PSAC East.

Millersville stays on the road for its next set of games, playing Wednesday at the University of the Sciences in a non-conference set of games. That doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
