SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — The Millersville Marauders closed out their 2025 campaign with a pair of defeats at Shepherd on Saturday afternoon. The Rams took game one 2–1 and game two 7–3, but
Jocelyn Langer and
Kendra Bumgardner solidified their respective names in the record books once more. Langer tallied a hit in both games to increase her on base streak to an impressive 50 games.
Millersville's young squad began the season with a sparkling 16–4 record against non-conference teams but couldn't gain their footing upon entering conference play. They finished with a 6–26 mark in the highly competitive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to end the season with a 22–30 record overall. The campaign featured both a 10 game winning streak and a 15 game losing streak.
"Although where we finished was disappointing, we were in just about every game," Millersville head coach
Jen Probst said postgame. "That shows that with some off season work, we can compete and end up on the winning side more next season."
Much of the returning roster took a leap in what was for many their first full season of regular collegiate playing time.
Nicolina Pezzone finished with a 3.65 earned run average (ERA) and led the team with nine wins as the team's primary starter for much of the season. She also ended up with 106 strikeouts, seventh in team history and eighth in the PSAC. Newcomers
Delaney Troxell and
Mollie White both proved to be effective on the pitching side as well. Troxell finished with a 3.80 ERA over 97.2 innings pitched in her rookie campaign while White cemented herself amongst the Marauder regulars with a 3.54 ERA in 28 appearances.
Angelina Saverase closed out her tenure in the 'Ville by setting career highs in appearances (31) and innings pitched (72.1).
At the plate, the Marauders showed increased patience and followed through on Probst's promise to be more aggressive on the basepaths, nearly tripling their stolen base output from the year prior (18 to 50). The trio of Langer, Bumgardner and
Carly Vaughan spearheaded the offense for much of the season. Vaughan set a new school record with 16 hit by pitches and raised her average over 100 points and her OPS over 300 points from her rookie campaign. Injuries limited junior
Victoria Fuss to 38 games played but the middle infielder's power still shined through, leading the team in home runs and finishing second in slugging percentage.
Angelina Edwards tied Fuss for the team lead in long balls and showed a knack for the clutch hit, finishing with a team-high 44 runs batted in. That was good for a sixth-place tie amongst the leaders in the PSAC and the sixth most in program history.
Bumgardner finishes as one of the most prolific student-athletes to ever step foot in Seaber Softball Stadium. She totaled the most at bats in Marauder history (635), the second most games played (194), the third most runs, the fifth most hits (190), the seventh most doubles (36), the ninth most walks (47), and finished in a tie for 10
th with 11 home runs.
Langer, Bumgardner's freshman teammate in the outfield, put the whole league on notice with an outstanding rookie campaign that will almost certainly land her PSAC East Freshman of the Year votes. She finished with a stellar .406 average and ended up in the top five in the conference in on-base percentage (.503, fourth), walks (30, T-third), hits (65, fifth), and runs scored (45, T-fourth). In Millersville's single season annals, she finished tied for second in walks, second in runs scored and fourth in hits.
Marauder seniors Bumgardner, Saverase and
Bryn Spoerl were on Probst's mind when she spoke postgame.
"Our three seniors went out playing some great softball," Probst said. "I'm so grateful for their leadership this season and everything they've given to the program over the last four years."
