Indiana, Pa. - A 19-point halftime deficit was too much for the Millersville women's basketball team to overcome as it fell to Indiana (Pa.) in a PSAC Crossover, 70-50, Tuesday evening.
IUP (7-1) shot nearly 63 percent (17-of-27) from the field including 6-of-10 from behind the arc in the first half and outscored the Marauders 34-22 in the paint. Millersville managed a shooting percentage of just 30 percent (18-of-60) on the night and fell to 4-4 on the season.
The Marauders were paced by Carly Gallagher who turned in 12 points to go with three rebounds and one assist. Gallagher has scored 45 points in her last three games against the Crimson Hawks. Shelby Reimer dropped 10 points as the only other Millersville scorer in double figures. Alexis Martin brought down a career-high nine rebounds to lead the team in that department.
IUP opened the game on a 7-2 run and was up by as many as 12, 21-9, in the early going. The Marauders answered with an 8-0 run of their own and shrunk the margin to 21-17. The run was fueled by all six of Senada Mehmedovic's points and two more from her sister Sabina. Millersville didn't get any closer though and the Crimson Hawks headed into the locker room with a 43-24 lead.
The home team cooled down significantly in the second half and shot just 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from the floor. The Marauders, however, hit only nine of their 30 shot attempts. IUP led by as many as 23 (64-41) in the second half and cruised to a 70-50 victory.
The Marauders will look to rebound against PSAC newcomer Seton Hill Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
