Edinboro, Pa. – Edinboro's Darche' Jackson scored 21 points off the bench to lead the ninth-ranked Fighting Scots past Millersville by a score of 71-43 Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse.
Edinboro (8-0, 6-0 PSAC) and Millersville (5-2, 4-2 PSAC) exchanged 3-point buckets to start the game. But then the Fighting Scots countered with a second three and never lost the lead.
The Fighting Scots took a 16-point lead--the largest of the half--four different times throughout the first session. Sophomore Darche' Jackson, who has started every game before today, came off the bench to score 11 points in the first half, including three-straight 3-pointers. The guard, who is averaging 9.8 points a game, finished with a game-high 21 points.
For Millersville, it was a first half of turnovers and missed opportunities. The Marauders finished the first half with 15 turnovers--one less than a game ago--while shooting just 8-for-25 from the field.
Things didn't get much better in the second half for Millersville. The Marauders were just held to 17 second-half points. Millersville had only scored eight points with 6:30 remaining in the game until freshman Rachel Coulter entered the game and scored seven of the Marauders' final nine points.
For Edinboro, it was Jackson leading way with 21 of the Fighting Scots' 31 points of the bench. Millersville on the other hand, scored just nine points of the bench. Seven of those points coming after the outcome of the game was already determined.
Mashira Newman was the only Marauder to score in double-figures with 10--eight of those points coming in the first half. Aurielle Mosley was held under double-figures for the second-straight game. The last time Mosley was held under double-digits in back-to-back games was on Jan. 9 and 12 last season against Bloomsburg and Edinboro.
Edinboro cruised to a 28 points victory by a score of 71-43. It was the largest deficit Millersville faced since 2006 when Clarion defeated Millersville 74-49.
Millersville looks to get back on track when it travels to Wilmington, Del., on Dec. 19 to take on the Wildcats. The tip is set for 6 p.m.
