Box Score
Long Island, N.Y. – The Marauders traveled to Long Island, N.Y., Wedneday to challenge No. 6 C.W. Post. The Pioneers held on after a late Millersville goal to defeat the Marauders by a score of 2-1.
C.W. Post (10-0) entered the game as one of five teams left in Division II to have neither a loss nor a tie. The Pioneers not only stayed unblemished but tied No. 1 Fort Lewis for 10-straight wins to open the season.
The Pioneers got on the board first in the 17th minute. David Borysewixz sent in a long cross from right to left that found teammate Cemil Turan. Turan headed the ball into the lower right corner for his 10th goal of the season, putting C.W. Post up 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 heading into the break. The Pioneers outshot Millersville (5-3-1) by an 8-3 margin in the first side.
Turan recorded his third point of the afternoon in the 55th minute when he crossed a pass to teammate Eivind Austboe. Austobe one-touched the ball into the lower right corner to increase the Pioneer's lead to 2-0.
The Marauders found an answer in the 83rd minute. Eric Pepper found Aaron Roland in the box all alone. Roland struck in low to the left side to cut the Pioneers' lead to 2-1 with minutes to play.
Millersville was unable to find an equalizer. The Marauders have dropped three of their last four games, the last match ending in a tie, to go on their longest winless streak since the 2006 season when they finished 3-12 under former head coach Bob Charles. The longest winless streak since Widdowson's tenure began in 2007 was previously at two games.
The Marauders begin a three-game homestand on Monday, Oct. 10 when they host Slippery Rock in a makeup game that was postponed earlier in the season. The teams are set to square off at 4 p.m.
