
Women's Basketball Bounces Back Against St. Leo

Lakeland, Fla. - Behind a staunch defensive effort and double-doubles from Jenna Craig and Gladine St. Julien, the Millersville women's basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 55-44 win over St. Leo Thursday in Lakeland, Fla.
The Marauders improved to 7-1 with the victory and held their sixth opponent to fewer than 50 points. St. Leo (7-3) struggled against Millersville's hounding defense, committing 29 turnovers and connecting on just 16-of-50 attempts including 3-of-15 from 3-point range.
Similarly, Millersville shot just over 33 percent, but rebounding and second-chance points proved to be the difference. Craig, who finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and St. Julien, who totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds, each grabbed five offensive boards. Millersville scored 15 second chance points while limiting St. Leo to just two.
The game was never in doubt. The Marauders scored first and held St. Leo to just one point through the first eight minutes of the contest to build a 16-1 advantage. With just over five minutes left in the half, Millersville held a commanding 22-8 lead and took a 27-16 edge into the break.
Millersville managed just three points through the first five minutes of the second period, but its defense was up to the challenge, keeping St. Leo at bay. St. Leo closed the gap to 30-25 but Millersville answered with a 10-point run sparked by a pair of three-point plays from Craig and St. Julien. Both Craig and St. Julien scored nine in the second frame.
The double-double was Craig's third-straight and fourth of the season. She also shot 5-of-6 from the stripe and recorded three steals. Raquel Green was also a key contributor, grabbing 10 rebounds and chipping in seven points. Ashley Moyer added seven points as well.
The Marauders return to Pennsylvania following Thursday's game but will have an opportunity to rest until Dec. 30 when they travel to Philadelphia. The game is schedule for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on MSBN.
