December 21, 2007 - Millersville University of Pennsylvania's athletic director, Peg Kauffman, announced today that head football coach Joe Trainer has resigned the position effective January 2, 2008. Trainer, who was appointed the 19th head coach in Millersville University football history in March 2005, will become defensive coordinator at the University of Rhode Island.
"We wish the best for Joe in his new position," said Kauffman. “We appreciate the commitment and dedication he made to the program during his tenure. Joe has impacted the lives of many of our student athletes in a positive way.”
"I've appreciated the opportunity at Millersville," said Trainer. “It was a difficult decision to leave Millersville, but this is a good opportunity for me and a good move for my family."
Trainer came to Millersville after eight seasons on the Villanova University coaching staff, including five as defensive coordinator. Millersville was his first head coaching assignment.
Ron Rankin, a Marauders' assistant coach for nine years, has been named interim head football coach.
