Kuehn's outing helps Marauders to game two win on Senior Day

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - After a narrow 4-3 loss in Thursday's opener, Millersville needed Alex Kuehn to deliver. The senior right-hander, making possibly his final start at Cooper Park, took a no-hitter into the sixth and helped blank No. 19 West Chester, 6-0.
Before Tanner Donati's two-strike, lead-off single in the sixth, the only blemish on Kuehn's line was a Millersville fielding error in the first. But he erased that runner with a double play, and he faced the minimum through five. His seventh win of the season came at a much-needed time as the Marauders squandered a couple of offensive opportunities in the bottom of the seventh in game one. The win snapped West Chester's 11-game winning streak.
"Kuehn is pitching his best at the most important time of the year," said Millersville head coach Jon Shehan. "That was outstanding. He wasn't happy that I came to get him, but I'm OK with that. He wanted to be out there. It was impressive."
With Kuehn keeping West Chester off the base paths, the Millersville offense could stay patient. It broke through in the fourth when Matthew Williams and Jimmy Kirk started with back-to-back singles, starting a run of seven consecutive Marauders to reach base, six of which singled. Five runs crossed the plate for a comfortable lead.
"I thought we did a good job adjusting to Raho the second time through," said Shehan. "We situationally hit very well during that inning. I was happy how we didn't try to do too much."
After Kuehn's exit, Joe Morrissey nailed down his sixth save. Xavier Smith and Christo Hunsicker led the Marauders' bats with two hits each.
"We are playing very good baseball right now," said Shehan. "It's fun to watch the club compete."
The Marauders competed in game one as well but came up just shy despite late homers from Christo Hunsicker and Kirk. West Chester's Carter Rust staked his team to a 4-1 lead with a homer, triple, single and home run-robbing catch on a deep fly from Brady Ebbert. The Rams hit back-to-back homers in the third.
Millersville chipped away and Troy Chamberlin singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch runner Caleb Strutevant was cut down stealing, though. The Marauders were not quite finished as Hunsicker walked and Christian Cerone was hit by a pitch, but West Chester reliever Landen Rozich closed the inning without further damage for his second save.
Freshman Eli Simonton, while roughed in the third, battled through six innings and kept West Chester off the board after the third.
