Millersville

Jon Shehan

SHEHAN'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Millersville alum Jon Shehan has built the Marauder baseball program into a contender at the conference, regional and national levels. In 18 seasons, Millersville has won 11 PSAC Eastern Division Championships, three PSAC Championships, three NCAA Atlantic Regional titles, and totaled seven 40-win seasons and 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. The Marauders have reached 12 consecutive NCAA regionals, which is the longest active streak in the region, and the 2016 Marauders finished as the NCAA Division II Runner-Up.

Shehan, a four-time Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, seven-time PSAC East Coach of the Year and the 2016 HERO Sports Division II Coach of the Year, inherited a club that went 9-37 in 2007 and has since produced a 639-285-1 record, ranking first in Millersville history in winning percentage and first in total wins. He was only 31 years old when he notched his 200th win and won his 500th game before his 40th birthday. He now has 15 postseason appearances under his belt, including 14 in a row. Shehan's teams reached the NCAA Atlantic Regional as the No. 1 seed seven times since 2011 and have qualified for the regional 13 times in the last 14 seasons. His 2016 club set a PSAC record for wins in a season with 53 and became one of only four clubs from the league to play for a national championship. That team bested the 2015 team's record of 45 wins. The 2015 team also became the first Marauder club since 1998 to win a PSAC Championship. The 2022 club won Shehan's second conference crown, and the 2023 team earned a No. 1 seed at the NCAA Championship and finished 46-10. His teams have made five PSAC Tournament title games and five NCAA Atlantic Regional title games. The Marauders have also held national rankings in each of the last 14 seasons. In 2016, Millersville became just the third PSAC program ever to achieve a regular season national No. 1 ranking. The Marauders spent the entire season ranked in the top three of the Perfect Game Division II Poll, and achieved their No. 1 ranking on April 18. It spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the Perfect Game poll, four in a row in the NCBWA poll and eight weeks in a row in the top two of the Collegiate Baseball poll. The 2024 club reached No. 2 in the ABCA Poll. In 2025, the Marauders set a program record for wins at home, going 29-5.

Shehan, a 2006 graduate of Millersville, has developed 91 All-PSAC East honorees (including a record nine in 2016 and 2019), 59 All-Atlantic Region selections, 11 Atlantic Region Golden Glove winners, a national Gold Glove winner, and 10 Major League Baseball draft picks. Of the 20 All-America selections in school history, Shehan recruited and developed 18. Chris Murphy became Millersville's first-ever All-America First Team honoree in 2013. Shehan has also coached a seven PSAC East Pitcher of the Year winners, five PSAC East Player of the Year winners and four freshmen of the year award winners.

The Marauders have ranked in the PSAC's top five in team ERA and fielding percentage in each of the last 15 years. 33 Marauder pitchers earned All-PSAC East honors from 2010-2024, and Chris Murphy, Brandon Miller, Tim Mayza, Carson Kulina and Tim Mayza all earned All-America honors. Shehan's pitching staff produced the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year seven times between 2013 and 2021. Even with a strong reputation for developing pitchers, Millersville's 2013, 2015, 2016, 2022, 2023 and 2025 clubs produced record-setting offensive seasons. After resetting the record books in both seasons, the 2016 club set 10 offensive records, and the 2022 team matched it with school records in extra-base hits, doubles, home runs, slugging percentage and walks. The 2024 team set a program record for stolen bases. In 2025, the Marauders broke records for walks and hit batters. All five of the program's PSAC East Athlete of the Year award winners--Zach Stone, Chas McCormick, Thomas Caufield and two-time winner Bren Taylor--have come under Shehan's watch.

OUTSTANDING SEASONS
With a program record 29 home wins, the 2025 Marauders hosted the PSAC Tournament at Cooper Park for the first time and won their third PSAC Championship under Shehan. The Marauders ran away with the PSAC East title for the fifth time in six seasons and earned the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region.

Behind a pitching staff that ranked in the nation's top five in WHIP, hits allowed per nine innings and ERA while also setting a school record for strikeouts in a season, the 2023 Marauders produced the second-most wins in program history and won the third NCAA Atlantic Regional title under Shehan's direction. The Marauders went 21-3 against the PSAC East for a fourth-straight division crown. Bren Taylor became the first Marauder to win the PSAC East Athlete of the Year trophy twice, and he earned his second All-America honor.

The Marauders captured a third-straight PSAC East title and won the PSAC Championship in 2022, running through the tournament with a 4-0 record and outscoring teams 30-7 in one of the most dominant performances in recent history. While smashing school records with an overwhelming lineup, Thomas Caufield became Millersville's first Atlantic Region Player of the Year (D2CCA and NCBWA). Millersville extended its region-best active streak of consecutive NCAA regional appearances to nine.

Millersville swept the PSAC East's major awards in 2021, going 23-8 in the division and winning the PSAC East title. Jeff Taylor was named pitcher of the year, Bren Taylor was voted athlete of the year and Conor Cook was named freshman of the year. The Marauders earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Atlantic Regional and advanced to the championship round.

In 2019, Millersville ran away with the PSAC East crown, posting a 23-5 division record. The Marauders closed the season 38-16 and earned the right to host a NCAA Super Regional on campus for the first time ever. Millersville's seven PSAC East First Team selections were a program record, and Eli Nabholz won his second-consecutive PSAC East Pitcher of the Year award. Nabholz, Daniel Ross and Tyler Yankosky were all selected in the MLB Draft.

Even with only one senior in the lineup and none in the starting rotation, the 2018 Marauders won 19 PSAC East games and reached the PSAC Tournament title game for the fourth time in five seasons. The No. 2 seed in the NCAA Atlantic Regional, Millersville won six postseason games and came within one win of the regional championship game.

Despite losing three conference starting pitchers to professional baseball and a pair of career record holders at the plate, Millersville went 34-19 in 2017 and qualified for the NCAA Atlantic Regional, beating Shippensburg in the opening round. Chas McCormick was voted the PSAC East Athlete of the Year and Tyler Yankosky was named the freshman of the year. McCormick became the first Marauder to be named All-PSAC East four times.

Nine All-PSAC East honorees, seven all-region selections, three All-Americans, three MLB Draft selections and four with pro contracts, the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and PSAC East Freshmen of the Year helped the Marauders to a PSAC record 53-7 record. Shehan's club won its fourth consecutive PSAC East title--a feat not achieved by a PSAC club since 1995. The Marauders won the NCAA Atlantic Regional as the No. 1 seed and after winning its first three games at the NCAA Division II Championship, played a best-of-three series against Nova Southeastern for the national championship.

The 2015 club captured the PSAC crown with a sterling 45-11 record. The Marauders went 22-6  in the PSAC East for a fourth division title in five years. The team pieced together two 13-game winning streaks, beat a pair of national top-10 teams in the PSAC Tournament and came within one win of the NCAA Atlantic Region title. Millersville was ranked as high as No. 9 in Division II. Four players received All-America recognition.

The 2014 Marauders won their second consecutive PSAC East title and third in four years and claimed its third No. 1 seed in the NCAA Atlantic Regional in the same span with a 39-16 overall record and 21-7 conference mark. The Marauders rose to as high as No. 11 in Division II during the season. They reached both the PSAC Championship game and the final round of the regional.

Led by Murphy and Mayza in the starting rotation, the 2013 team went 18-6 in the PSAC East to win the crown. The Marauders captured the top seed in the NCAA Atlantic Regional and came within one game of the regional title game. A potent offense featured four players with at least 45 RBIs, and Stone tied a Millersville record with 80 hits. Shehan was named PSAC East and ABCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

Shehan led his club to a dominating 44-12 record in the 2011 season. His squad posted a 37-8 regular season record and won the PSAC East going away. The 19-5 record was seven games better than the runner-up. It was his second PSAC East crown in four seasons. The Marauders went on to sweep the NCAA Atlantic Regional as its top seed and reached the NCAA Division II Championship for just the second time in school history. The team led or ranked second in the PSAC in 20 stat categories. At season's end, six Marauders were named All-PSAC East and seven gained All-Atlantic Region mention. Shehan was named ABCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

Shehan's first PSAC Eastern Division title came in 2008. As a first-year interim head coach, he guided the program to its first division championship in eight years. Millersville also made its first playoff appearance since 2000 and won two postseason contests. The success came from a team which had finished 9-37 the season before and opened up 2008 with a 6-20 record. Millersville then won 16 of its next 18 games to finish 12-8 in the division and 24-26 overall.

The remarkable turnaround earned him PSAC East Coach of the Year honors. Shehan’s guidance helped his players earn four All-PSAC East selections, the PSAC East Rookie of the Year award and a regional gold glove.

COACHING BACKGROUND
Prior to becoming head coach, Shehan completed a two-year stint as the Marauder assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. His duties included working with the Marauder hitters and catchers. He was given the tough responsibility of rebuilding the Marauder roster during the 2006-07 academic year. His first recruiting class resulted in 16 commitments, including nine high school signings and seven transfers.

As a the hitting coach in 2006, Shehan helped the Marauders improve their offensive statistics from 2005 in almost every category, including average (.267 to .307), on base percentage (.339 to .372), slugging percentage (.360 to .424) and home runs (12 to 26).

PLAYING CAREER
Shehan, a career .328 hitter at Millersville, finished his Marauder playing career in 2004. He earned All-PSAC First Team honors as a catcher and led the NCAA in doubles per game (0.60). Shehan broke the Marauder single-season record for doubles (23) and led the squad in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.397), slugging percentage (.678), hits (48), runs (30), and RBIs (28).

Following his final season with the Marauders, Shehan signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves organization. In 2004, he played for the Gulf Coast Braves before earning a promotion to single-A Rome. In 2005, he was a member of the Appalachian League Eastern Division-Champion Danville Braves. Also in 2005, Shehan was the catching instructor for the Pennsylvania AAA High School State Champion Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers.

He is currently a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Shehan received a bachelor’s degree in technology education from Millersville in 2006 and a master's degree in sport management in 2013. Shehan and his wife, Lindsay (Millersville ’04), are the parents of two sons: Cole and Benjamin.
