Marauders roll past Mansfield to take series

Millersville scored double-digit runs in both games of a doubleheader for the first time since May 2, 2025. The Marauders led game one 11-0 before Mansfield scored, and led 13-0 before Mansfield found the runs column in the seventh inning of the finale. Kirk finished the day with six RBIs and a pair of homers. Brady Ebbert drove in four runs and totaled three hits, including a home run, in the two games. Christo Hunsicker recorded an inside-the-park home run in game two as well.
Mansfield's pitchers struggled with their command, hitting eight and walking five in game one and hitting seven with five walks in game two.
Fortune smiled on the Marauders in the first inning of the opener. With two on and two out, Ebbert hit a lazy fly to left field, but Slade Mictigue misread the ball, and it dropped in for a double. Maddox Yost later singled in a pair of runners for a 4-0 Millersville lead. Aided by four free passes and Kirk's grand slam, Millersville blew open the game with six runs on two hits in the sixth.
Rece Ritchey cruised through five scoreless innings, but after the long wait in the bottom of the fifth, his command suffered in the top of the sixth. The first four batters of the sixth reached base, and inherited runners eventually crossed the plate. But Ritchey still struck out five and allowed just four hits in five innings.
Kirk got the Marauders rolling in the first inning with a two-run blast to the opposite field. Donis Rodriguez tripled in two runs as part of a five-run second inning, and Millersville scored at least one run in each of their six trips to the plate. Millersville received some more good luck with batted balls that hit second and third base. Both resulted in hits.
Shamany hurled six shutout innings, allowed five hits while fanning six.
POSTGAME THOUGHTS FROM COACH JON SHEHAN
- On getting some good bounces for struggling hitters: "It felt good for a change. We didn't play well enough to win yesterday. That's the reality. In close games we have to make pitches. We got picked off, which killed us. The little things, we did better with today. This game is full of luck. Some days you have it, some days you don't. The last couple of weeks it hasn't felt like we've had many things go our way."
- On getting RBI hits from the middle of the order: "It's not just those guys, but the upperclassmen arms. It hasn't been the freshmen and sophomores who have struggled the last few weeks. Our upperclassmen haven't played good baseball offensively and haven't pitched well. It was good to see Ritchey and Sham pitch well today. The middle of the lineup got it going."
- On contributions from young players: "Mason Sanno and Ty Custer have bright futures. Gino (Williams) put a good swing on the ball, and he's a really good defender at first. The future is bright. Any time you can get them in the ball game, we are not lacking confidence that they will get the job done. It's a good contingency plan too, because they are one pitch away from being in the game the rest of the year."
- Kirk finished the series with three home runs, giving him a career-high 10 for the season and 27 for his career. His 27th moved him into third place in Millersville history ahead of Thomas Caufield and Ryan Brink.
- Williams moved up to 12th in PSAC in history with his 179th career RBI. He is one behind Dan Stoltzfus for fourth in Millersville history.
- In the final inning of game two, all six of Millersville players in the infield were freshmen. Yost caught all 14 innings of the doubleheader and was hit by three pitches.
- Millersville's eight hit-batsmen in game one are the most of the modern stats era, which dates to 2002.
- Millersville hosts Wilmington for a nine-inning game on April 21 at 3 p.m.
