EDINBORO, Pa. - The Millersville University women's tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over Edinboro Fighting Scots, sweeping all doubles matches to set the tone for the win. Marian Hayes continued her dominant spring campaign, securing her fifth consecutive singles victory to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Marauders benefited by three defaults by the Fighting Scots, earning two singles points and one doubles win.
Lauren Hayes and Marian Hayes continued their dominant run as a doubles pair, earning a convincing 6-2 victory over the Fighting Scots. Mia Gassert and Annika Rojas battled through a tightly contested match, ultimately securing a hard-fought 7-6 (4) win.
M. Hayes remained perfect in singles play this spring, improving to 5-0 with a strong 6-4, 6-1 victory. L. Hayes battled through a tough match but fell 7-5 in the second set after a challenging start. Gassert and Luci Consigliere also faced difficulties in their matches, each dropping the second set 6-0. Duda Coutinho Barreto and Rojas earned default victories in their singles matches, clinching the overall win for the Marauders.
"We played some decent doubles," said head coach Matt Helsel. "It was nice to pull out a team win on the road. Let's see if we can start to build some momentum moving forward."
The Marauders are back on their home courts Apr 1, when they host Kutztown at McComsey Courts.
