PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — After quickly jumping out to a 4–2 lead in the first quarter, the Marauders went scoreless through the second and third in their loss to Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon.
Millersville women's lacrosse (3–5, 1–3 PSAC) traveled to Philadelphia in a non-conference match against Jefferson (6–2, 1–0 CACC). Millersville started the scoring early with a goal less than one minute into play from attacker Brianna Gora. Jefferson responded shortly after, but the Marauders scored three unanswered to close out the first quarter with a two‑goal lead.
Jefferson then went on to score eight unanswered, snatching the lead from Millersville and growing a lead of their own to five goals. Coach hinkle when referencing her teams drought mentioned, "We lacked composure in big moments and struggled to be consistent with our ball movement and shot placement." It wasn't until 11:51 to go in the fourth quarter that Kayleigh Dunn, an attacker for the Marauders, broke the 30‑plus‑minute scoring drought for Millersville and made it a 9–5 game, still in favor of Jefferson.
Millersville clawed back, and with goals from Shannon Meder and Brianna Gora, her second of the game, the five‑goal lead was quickly cut back to two with just under eight minutes of game time left. The Marauders had just one more shot on goal that was turned aside late in the fourth. When asked about what needed to happen to fully mount the comeback, Coach Hinkle said, "We have to find it in ourselves to dig deep when momentum is not in our favor and ride out a solid defensive possession and finish offensively. Focus on the little things to swing the momentum back on our favor." Jefferson matched Millersville's three‑goal fourth quarter with two goals of their own to solidify the win and improve to 6–2 on the season.
