Two Women's Tennis freshmen grab wins in loss to Bobcats

FROSTBURG, MD. - The Millersville University women's tennis squad dropped their dual match against the Bobcats from Frostburg State, 5–2. Freshmen Marian Hayes and Duda Coutinho Barreto each picked up singles victories after forcing extra sets in their matches.
In doubles, Lauren Hayes and Marian Hayes held on the longest against the Bobcats, dropping their match 6–3. Luci Consigliere and Mia Gassert fell 6–1, while Duda Coutinho Barreto and Annika Rojas dropped their match 6–2.
L. Hayes nearly took the first set in her singles match, falling 7–5 before dropping the second set 6–2. M. Hayes won her first set 6–4 but was forced into a third after losing the second 6–4. M. Hayes controlled the final set, winning 6–1 to move to 2–0 in singles matches this week. Consigliere and Gassert struggled throughout their matches, while Rojas had difficulty in the second set. Barreto won her first set 6–3 but dropped the second 6–1. In the final set, she pulled through with a 1–0(8) victory.
The Marauders are back on their home court Wednesday, March 18 when they face the Rams from Jefferson.
