LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Coming off an 11-7 season and PSAC Tournament berth, the Millersville women's lacrosse team looks to mimic its past success and make a deep run into May. The success last year lands the team at No. 4 in the PSAC East Preseason Poll.
After finishing third in the PSAC East last season, the Marauders were jumped by Kutztown. The Marauders come into this season with a whole new identity, new culture, and a new leader at head coach. Nicole Hinkle, who won a conference championship with her former Division III team, Misericordia, took over coaching duties late in the fall and has been making her mark on the women's lacrosse program early.
With a lot of roster turnover, and three of last year's top scorers graduating, Millersville will rely heavily on some of the younger players to step up. One of the top offensive players returning is Mary Moraca, who is back for her senior season. Moraca had 30 goals and 13 assists last year for the Black and Gold. Another player that has grown throughout her career and could step into a larger roll this year is Kayleigh Dunn who had a breakout season last year with 18 goals and 13 assists.
The defensive side of the ball is very familiar with one another and looks to blossom into its full form this year. With returners like starting Goalie KC O'Neill, Katlyn Krebs, and Briar Brown who all now have at least a year under their belts and.
Krebs and Moraca both recieved IWLCA All-Atlantic Region honors for their performances last season. Krebs was instrumental to Millersville's defensive efforts. She started all 18 games and ranked second on the team in draw controls (57), caused turnovers (27) and ground balls (38). Krebs was named to first team whereas Moraca, who was Millersville's draw specialist, won a team-leading 111, ranking fourth in the PSAC in draw controls per game.
