MILLERSVILLE, Pa. --- Despite Shippensburg's best efforts, the Marauders were able to hold on and improve to 8-7 in PSAC East play against a team they beat by almost 20 points less than a month ago. The Red Raiders sent their all at the Marauders, but due to a double-double from Bryn Zentner and 18 points from Daniella Ranieli, the Marauders were able to get the win.
The Marauders came out cold in the first quarter, connecting on three of their 16 shots and shooting 18.8% from the field. The game went back and forth, with both teams holding the lead, but it was Shippensburg who emerged as the leader at the end of the quarter, leading the Marauders 11-9.
Millersville doubled its first-quarter points in the second to battle back and gain a lead going into the half. The Marauders' 18 points in the second quarter propelled them ahead of the Red Raiders 27-21 and gave them a halftime lead. A lead that soon was cut down and kept closer by Shippensburg for the remainder of the game.
The game was about as even as it could've been throughout the second half, and that's reflected in the result: overtime. At the beginning of the overtime period, Daniella Ranieli opened things up with a huge three-pointer that would challenge the Red Raiders to chase the remainder of the five-minute stanza. The chase proved to be too much for Shippensburg, though, who could not answer the points that the Marauders were putting up after the early three-pointer by Ranieli.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Daniella Ranieli finds herself as the leading scorer for the Marauders once again with 18 points, three steals, and four rebounds.
- Bryn Zentner had herself a night as well with 15 points and 13 rebounds, solidifying her fourth double-double of the season so far.
- Kelly Cleaver, reigning PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week, had another impressive night, righting the ship with four blocks and a steal, finishing with seven rebounds.
