Big fourth inning spurs Felician past Marauders

HAMPTON, Va. - A Jose Medrano home run to leadoff the fourth inning led to an 11-run frame for Felician, which went on to top Millersville 13-5, closing a three-game series.

After Medrano's home run off of Millersville starter Carlos Caraballo, things unraveled quickly for the Marauders. A walk was followed by a fielding error and a three-run home run. Two more walks extended the inning. Millersville eventually used three pitchers in the inning, and Felician piled up 11 runs on five hits and seven walks.

"We have to do a better job with limiting compounding mistakes," said Millersville head coach Jon Shehan. "Walks, errors and extra-base hits are inevitable. But we've got to make better pitches and plays after the initial mistake. We've lost two innings all season. Both of those innings were pretty bad, though. We could have limited damage and given our offense and chance to win in each contest."

The free passes had not been an issue in the first two games of the series as Millersville had issued just four walks in 16 innings against the Falcons. Felician drew 11 walks. Neisser Sanchez drove in four runs to lead the Falcon's offense.

Millersville led after a first-inning sacrifice fly from Xavier Smith. The Marauders added two more in the fifth and two in the seventh. Donis Rodriguez scored three runs and went 2 for 4 in the leadoff spot. Matthew Williams and Smith both drove in two.

Millersville went 3-1 on the weekend against two teams that played the NCAA Tournament in 2025. Millersville is off for nearly two week as it is slated to host its home opener against Goldey-Beacom on Feb. 28.
