MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Joe Morrissey's historical season of relief pitching earned him All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D2CCA, which is selected by college sports communicators.
Morrissey, a senior reliever, received second team recognition from both organizations. He is the first Marauder reliever to earn All-America status with D2CCA (previously Daktronics), and is the first recognized by the ABCA since George McClure landed on the third team in 2000.
Morrissey's 24 appearances were the most by a Marauder since 2013 and tied for the fourth-most all-time. He logged a 5-1 record and six saves to become the first Marauder since 2019 to register at least five saves and five wins in a season. His 1.04 ERA was the lowest by a Millersville pitcher with at least 30 innings since Jim Morrow's 0.51 mark in 1999, and it ranks third all-time. Opponents hit just .182 against him and he posted a 0.94 WHIP, allowing just 32 hits in 52 innings while striking out 63 batters.
Morrissey made six postseason appearances, totaling 12 1/3 innings with just one earned run allowed. He earned a win against East Stroudsburg in the PSAC Tournament semifinal with four shutout innings and closed the PSAC Championship win a day later against West Chester. He was on the mound as Millersville closed out the NCAA Atlantic Regional win over Seton Hill. He also struck out six West Chester hitters in 4 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits while throwing a season-high 74 pitches in the Super Regional.
Millersville coach Jon Shehan has now coached 13 All-America selections since 2011.
