Concord stops Marauders' winning streak with sweep

ATHENS, W.Va. - A day after Millersville scored 23 runs, it was Concord's turn for a big day at the plate. The Mountain Lions stopped Millersville's winning streak at seven with a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory in game one and an 11-8 win in game two.

GAME ONE
In the opener, Millersville's Connor Blantz surrendered just one run and struck out 11 in five innings before handing the ball to his bullpen. But the Marauders could not hold their 3-0 lead. Concord scored once on a wild pitch in the sixth, and then scored three on four hits in the seventh, getting a walk-off single from Austin Hear.

Millersville's bats, which had scored double-digit runs in the previous three games, managed just four hits and did not score after the second inning against starter Coby Ingle and reliever Jake Robinson, who picked up the save. Amani Jones led the Marauders with two hits and a stolen base.

GAME TWO
Millersville starter Garet Blankebiller had not allowed a run in his first two appearances spanning nine innings, but Hear hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and Concord went on to score at least once in each of their six innings at the plate.

Concord piled up 15 hits, and Hear drove in four runs. Millersville trailed 10-1 entering the fifth, and mounted a charge late, scoring five in the sixth, 11-8 was as close as the Marauders got. Concord's offense overcame four errors in the field.

Matthew Williams hit his fifth home run of the season and Keegan Soltis recorded three hits and two RBIs. Bren Taylor, who drove in two in the opener, extended his hitting streak to 20 games, which is eight away from the Millersville record held by Mitch Stoltzfus (2016).

POSTGAME FROM COACH SHEHAN
  • "We got outplayed today on all sides of the ball. Blantz pitched a nice game, and Williams had a great weekend at the plate."
UP NEXT
