MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville University men's tennis squad dropped their home opener against the Firebirds from the University of the District of Columbia to a final score of 5-2. The Marauders fall to 1-1 in dual play and the Firebirds improved to 1-0. 

After automatically earning a point in doubles due to the Firebirds not fielding a third team, the Marauders needed just one more win to secure the overall doubles point. However, they struggled to find momentum on the court. Axel Duclos and Joel Oetliker were outmatched, falling 6–3. Paul Bagnouls and Sandor Wulf put up a stronger fight, pushing their opponents in a closely contested battle, but ultimately came up short with a 7–5 loss. 

In singles play, Adrian Weisser and Oetliker struggled to gain traction and were ultimately outmatched by their opponents. Milan Urbanek and Duclos put up a resilient fight, each forcing a tiebreak, but both narrowly missed out on victory. The Marauders' only singles point came from Bagnouls, who earned a win by default.

"We competed very well against a good team," said Millersville coach Matt Helsel. "We had a great opportunity to win the doubles point, and that could have changed the result. This is a tougher level, and if you don't put matches away when you can, you may not get another chance."

The Marauders are back in action Saturday, Feb 28 when they host Bluefield State University at McComsey Tennis Courts.
