MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville men's tennis team won its second-straight dual and started its PSAC schedule with a 5-2 win at Bloomsburg Friday afternoon.
Millersville has now won two in a row over Bloomsburg for the first time since the 2006-07 season. The win improved the Marauders to 3-6 (1-0 PSAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Marauders displayed some grit in rallying from an early deficit at No. 1 doubles, and Dylan Tull and Shaurya Piplani battled back from first set defeats to win in three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Tull edged Albert Martin, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, and Piplani won a pair of tiebreakers, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
• Tull also had a hand in the clinching point in doubles as he teamed with Zach Pernia for a 7-6 (7-4) win over Albert Martin and Vishesh Patel. Tull and Pernia were on the brink of defeat, trailing 4-1 before with six of the next eight games. Piplani teamed with Lino Morin in the No. 2 doubles slot for a 6-2 win, getting Millersville the doubles point.
• The Marauders won four of the six singles matches, although Morin lost by retirement. In addition to Tull and Piplani's wins, Pernia (6-2, 6-1) and Jasper de Koning (6-1, 6-1) won convincingly.
REACTION FROM COACH MATT HELSEL
• "Dylan and Zach had a great comeback in doubles after being down 0-3 and 1-4. That got us going. Zach and Jasper were dominant in singles, and Shaurya and Dylan had tremendous comebacks to complete the win. A thorough win showing great resolve."
UP NEXT
• PSAC play continues for the Marauders on Tuesday, April 4 at home against Shepherd.
