BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team began its PSAC East title defense Friday at Bloomsburg by scoring a 5-2 victory.
The Marauders went 7-0 in Eastern Division play last season and are 12-1 in their last 13 PSAC East matches following Friday's win. Millersville has now won four in a row over Bloomsburg for the first time in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Noelle Htwar, the reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week, teamed with Hui Jen Soo at No. 1 doubles, and Maria Ojeda and Chloe Abramowtiz paired in the No. 2 flight for hard-fought 6-4 victories. Soo then outlasted Nicole Ilkovic in three sets at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. Ojeda (6-3, 6-3), Abramowtiz (6-0, 6-2) and Sophie Lanius (6-1, 6-4) rolled to wins to give Millersville 4-2 edge in singles play.
REACTION FROM COACH MATT HELSEL
• "We did a great job winning two close doubles matches to get the doubles point. Chloe and Maria were very impressive in convincing wins while Sophie and Jen pulled out close matches when we needed them. Total team effort."
UP NEXT
• Millersville faces a busy week with four duals in the next seven days. The stretch begins Monday at home against East Stroudsburg.
