MANHEIM, Pa. - A steady rain and wet field forced Sunday's field hockey game between Millersville and Newberry to Spooky Nook's indoor facility, but the change in location did nothing to slow down the Marauders, who won 2-0 to move to 4-0 on the season.
Kate Strickland scored both of Millersville's goals off of two assists from Bri Harsh, and Kerstin Koons earned her first shutout of the season. Strickland has now scored at least one goal in all four of Millersville's games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Newberry challenged the Marauders in a way that no team had yet this season. The Wolves held a 12-6 edge in penalty corners and tallied as many shots as the Marauders (9). In the third quarter alone, Newberry recorded seven shots on eight corners. But Koons stayed strong in goal, turning away four shots in the quarter.
• That stand preserved Millersville's 2-0 lead. Both of the Marauders' goals came in the first half. Harsh found Strickland on a penalty corner just 2:42 into the game. The pair connected again exactly 23 minutes later in the second quarter when Strickland scored her fifth goal of the season.
NOTES
• Sunday's game marked the first time that Millersville played a game at Spooky Nook, and it was the first regular season game played in an indoor facility.
• Millersville is now 7-0 all-time against Newberry with five of the wins coming by shutout.
UP NEXT
• The Marauders play Molloy at Biemesderfer Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 17.
