1MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - No. 4 Millersville took its first shot 55 seconds into the game, and Kate Strickland starting a scoring rampage 22 seconds later. Kristin Strijdom and Bri Harsh went on to score two goals apiece in Millersville's 7-0 rout of Molloy.
Millersville scored five times in the first half alone, and the first-ever meeting between Millersville (5-0) and Molloy (1-1) was entirely one-sided. Millersville totaled 35 shots and 20 penalty corners while blanking Molloy in both categories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Millersville scored three of its goals in the game's first seven minutes. Strickland, the team's leading scorer, punched in her sixth of the season on an assist from Ashlynn Lennon. Bri Harsh, who led the Marauders in goals scored in 2021, had yet to find the back of the cage in 2022 until she directed a Georgia Werkiser pass past the keeper at the 5:47 mark. Just 38 seconds later, Kortlin Yetter set up Strijdom on a penalty corner.
• Millersville earned a penalty stroke six minutes into the second period, and Strijdom came off the bench to convert. Yetter picked up her second assist of the game, feeding Codi Bollinger.
• Harsh struck again on a beauty of a reverse shot in the third quarter. She received a long pass from Caitlin Wasserman and found enough space just inside the top of the circle to hit a rocket past the keeper. Freshman Emma Zauck capped the scoring at 57:38 with the first goal of her career.
POSTGAME REACTION FROM COACH SHELLY BEHRENS
• On the fast start: "Molloy continues to get better, and for us, it was about getting better today. I think we did that. That was intentional that we want to do all the time. It was great to see the kids get down there, get a corner and start us off."
• On Harsh scoring twice: "She asks so much of herself all the time and helps us in so many ways other than goal scoring. She's a striker. What's cool with us is the balance of scoring with us. We have some kids finishing."
• On Harsh scoring twice: "Day to day. We want to beat yesterday. We beat the last time we were out. We did some nice things all over the field today. We lost some structure as the game went on and then got it back. I thought there were times that we were a little soft and then stepped it up. We are learning, and I hope that's prepared us for PSAC play."
• On young players getting experience in the game: "It's super important. What people miss out on, is that the kids who got some great time today are there in practice every day busting their tails, making us better every day. That's how we build our program. Love that we can get some players a break and a real credit to the players who got in today. They earned it."
