Women's lacrosse wins fourth-straight at Shippensburg, 15-12

Shippensburg, Pa. - Neither team led by more than four goals in the Millersville University women's lacrosse team's 15-12 win at Shippensburg on Tuesday afternoon. The victory marks the Marauders' fourth-straight and their sixth win out of their last seven. They have also already equaled their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win total from last season.

Millersville (7-3, 5-1 PSAC) improves to 3-1 on the road this season, while the Raiders (4-5, 2-3 PSAC) have now lost three of their last four.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Shippensburg scored the first two goals of the game to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Marauders scored six of the next seven, with Grace Cobaugh contributing the first three of those goals, to build a 6-3 lead. Kyra Shank scored for the Raiders with 2:24 remaining in the half to cut the Millersville lead to 6-4 going into halftime.
• Gillian Zimmerman scored the first two goals of the second half to give the Marauders an 8-4 lead, their largest of the game. Shippensburg scored three of the next four goals to make it a two-point game with 17:17 left on the clock.
• A 4-2 run by Millersville gave it some breathing room, but back-to-back Raider goals in the span of 36 seconds once again made it a two-goal game with only 3:37 remaining in the match. The Marauders allowed only one more goal and scored two of their own to claim the 15-12 victory.
• The difference in the game came on Shippensburg's free position shots. The Raiders went just 1-for-8 on their eight-meter shots, with Shannon Davis saving four of those shots.

• "It was a hard fought battle today, but we dug in and were able to come out with a win."
• "We had a slow start but then really fought to keep the lead. We did a good job of answering back whenever we gave up a goal in order to keep the momentum from shifting too much."
• "Shannon did a great job anticipating their shots on 8mS. Our defense crashed well to limit their scoring opportunities on free position shots."
• "We saw many different looks offensively which allowed many different people to score."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Erin Fagan led the attack with five points, three goals and two assists, while Grace Cobaugh and Gillian Zimmerman also recorded hat tricks. Sara Burney also had a strong offensive performance with one goal and two assists.
• Genevieve Speights tied a career high with eight draw controls, while Nathalie Sell caused a team-high two turnovers. Shannon Davis collected a game-high five ground balls, while Speights, Zimmerman and Michella Salvitti each scooped up three.
• Davis totaled 13 saves in net, the third time in the last four games she has tallied double-digit saves.

NOTES
• Shippensburg held an advantage in shots (32-30), shots on goal (25-23) and turned the ball over 16 times compared to Millersville's 20 turnovers. The Marauders had an edge in saves (13-8), draw controls (15-14), free position shots (9-8) and went 22-for-23 on clears, while the Raiders went 18-for-20. Each team collected 23 ground balls.
• This marks Millersville's fourth win out of its last five games against the Raiders and its third-straight win at Shippensburg.
• The Marauders' shooting percentage of 50 marks a season high and their 15 draw controls falls one short of tying a season high.
• Millersville entered this game having not scored a goal while up a player on the field. Today, it scored two goals while up a player.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders will stay on the road and look for their fifth-straight win when they travel to Slippery Rock on Sunday, April 7 for a 3 p.m. game. Millersville will also look to end a string of three-straight losses at Slippery Rock.
