
Men’s golf finishes as runner-up at Cecil Spadafora Invitational

INDIANA, Pa. – Due to the amount of rain overnight, the second round of the Cecil Spadafora Invitational was canceled which resulted in the first round standing as the final results. The Millersville University men's golf team was six shots off first place IUP, earning the Marauders a second-place finish.
The Marauders headed into the tournament as the reigning champion after the same situation happened last year. The Marauders won this tournament last season with a 296--the same score they finished with in 2019.
The Marauders beat conference foe West Chester by nine strokes with Le Moyne squeezing between the two teams and placing in third after shooting a 301.
IUP's Matt Cocorikis and Nicholas Ward captured the top two spots on the leaderboard, posting the only two scores that was under par round in the entire field.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Corey Betham led the first round charge for the Marauders, shooting a 2-over 73. Betham ended the first round in fourth. Betham began his round, shooting a 4-over 39 in the front nine. Then, he went 1-over par through the next three holes and birdied the next two, putting him in red numbers at 1-under through the first five of the back nine. Betham closed out the nine with another birdie on the par-4 ninth, resulting in a 2-under 34 and totaling his round with a 73.
• Matt Spak and Matt Keim both posted a 3-over 74, securing them a top-five finish in the tournament.
• Ronnie Yanoski tied his best finish of the year with a 10th-place finish. Yanoski was a shot shy of his teammates after carding a 4-over 75. Yanoski parred his first five holes but had his lone bogey on the par-4 sixth which resulted in a front nine 1-over 37 and then responded with a 3-over 38 in the final nine.
• In a tie for 29th, Brady Erb came into the clubhouse with a first round 7-over 78.
• John Devic played as an individual and finished in a tie for 21st with a 6-over 77.
NOTES
• This marks the fifth time that the Marauders have recorded a 300 or lower round as a team this year.
• Betham tied his best finish of the year. Betham recorded a team-high three birdies while Spak had a team-high 12 pars.
• By the end of the first round, the par-3 10th was playing as the hardest hole at a 0.83 average relative to par.
