Millersville, Pa. – Head coach Scott Vandegrift signed two high school seniors to this 2019-20 Millersville University men's golf roster earlier this month. The Marauders welcome Justin Gruver and Bailey Neveker to the squad.
"Both Bailey and Justin are coming next fall that a year," said Vandegrift. "We will be graduating four seniors so they have a golden opportunity not only to make our roster but we should definitely be strong because of their capabilities. They are coming here from the reason to not just make the roster but to earn a starting position and compete."
Millersville has reached the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional in six consecutive seasons. Vandegrift's squads have finished in the top four of the PSAC Championship in six of the last seven years. Millersville finished in fifth in last year's conference championships. The Marauders have won eight tournaments in that same span.
An experienced squad with three seniors--Reed Huntzinger, Matt Keim and Corey Betham--return to the course this spring. Keim and Matt Spak posted the team's top scoring averages in the fall.
JUSTIN GRUVER
Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford
About Gruver: Was a four-time captain and the No. 1 player in his high school team…Qualified for districts four times with one regional appearance…Named captain of his basketball and tennis teams…Four-year honor roll student along with being in National Honor Society.
Why Millersville?: "I chose Millersville because I am very familiar with the area. I really enjoyed the 'at home' atmosphere with the scenic views all throughout the campus. The education program is one of the best in the country, and that is very exciting, along with being able to play a sport I love and connect with coach and my teammates."
Academic Interest: Mid-Level or Secondary Education
BAILEY NEVEKER
Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford / Harrisburg Area Community College
About Neveker: Played at Harrisburg Area Community College beginning in the fall of 2017…Received the leadership award for golf as a freshman…Named all-region second team in his spring semester of 2018…Shot a 79 and 77 to qualify for the NJCAA National Championship which was held in Chautauqua, N.Y…Won a tournament with a 76 at the Hershey Country Club in the summer of 2017…Competed in six Harrisburg Area Junior Golf Association events and won four events including his age division's tournament of champions by shooting a 78.
Why Millersville?: "I chose Millersville because I fell in love with the positivity that surrounds the campus. It felt like home to me. I have a lot of friends that attend Millersville and they all have said great things about it. I also really liked how all of my credits from HACC transferred over perfectly. Coach Scott Vandegrift and his golf team have all welcomed me with open arms and that immediately influenced my decision. They are all a great group of guys with a common goal of wanting to make a strong run in the conference, and I want to help them in every way I can."
Academic Interest: Business Management
