GAME 1
Millersville totaled just three hits but didn't need much offense with Nabholz on the mound. Nabholz made quick work of the Mountaineers, needing just 85 pitches to go the distance. Not a single Mansfield runner reached scoring position. Nine of the 21 outs came off infield ground balls.
With hits not falling Millersville found ways to manufacture runs. In the second,
Manning Brookens drew a leadoff walk and later scored on
Eric Callahan's well-executed squeeze play.
Jimmy Cain put Millersville up 2-0 with an RBI single in the third.
Dominic Hardaway and
Luke Trainer started the fourth with back-to-back walks. Both moved into scoring position on a Callahan sacrifice bunt. Hardaway scored on a
Brandon White sacrifice fly. Dorta then picked up his first career RBI on his first career hit.
GAME 2
Shannon cruised through the first four innings, striking out six of eight batters in one stretch. But in the fifth, Mansfield put Millersville's 1-0 lead in serious jeopardy. The first three batters reached without hitting the ball past the pitchers' mound. Shannon, however, struck out Camren Ney and then got pinch hitter Zach Merkle to bounce back to him. Shannon fired home to cut down the lead runner. Shannon stranded three Mountaineers by getting leadoff hitter Colby Shearer to ground out to Dorta.
Mansfield also had back-to-back, one-out singles in the sixth, but Shannon again sat down two in a row to end the inning.
Timely hitting was key for the Millersville bats. Cain's RBI ground out in the first put Millersville up 1-0. In the fifth,
Dominic Hardaway drove in
Cole Friese with a single between third and short. In the sixth, Dorta followed a
Brandon White double with his second RBI single in as many games.
Friese went 2 for 4 with a run. Callahan went 2 for 3 with a stolen base. White went 2 for 3 with a double and a run.
