Orlando, Florida -- The Millersville men's tennis lost a 5-4 heartbreaker against St. Michael's College Sunday night.
SMC would take the first two doubles matches before senior Christian Boyer and sophomore Christian Akerley won a 9-8 nail biter against SMC's number one doubles team.
Boyer won the first singles match handedly 6-2 and 6-1. SMC rattled off three straight singles matches to seal the Purple Knights' victory. However, redshirt junior Noah Ginder responded and convincingly won the second to last match 6-4 and 6-0.
Akerley closed the dual with an inspired performance despite the victory out of reach. He dropped the first game 1-6 but rebounded for a 6-3 win in the second game. In the final game, Akerley took out SMC's number one with a 10-4 game to seal the match win.
Despite not winning a duals match this season, this is the closest the Millersville men's tennis team has gotten to victory this season. Head coach Matt Helsel will use this as the building block for the team's week long spring break road trip.
The Millersville men's tennis team returns to the court Tuesday March 14 against Wayne State University in Orlando, Fl. at the United States Tennis Association National Campus.
